Grass Valley, CA, December 19, 2004 -- Imagine a quintessential jazz setting. The house lights are down, color lekos are sparkling off the musician's stands, horns, cymbals. The musicians are concentrated and tight, the music is flowing, the audience is engaged. Behind the players is a set of 5 stage height backdrops, murals with broad brushstrokes in smoky blues and violets on black canvas -- jazz murals, portraying a sizzling nightclub ensemble -- magical, with a swirl of motion and color, a rush of improvization and startling unexpected passages, melody and harmony, collaboration and solo virtuosity.

JazzArt ® has been honored once again to collaborate with the International Association for Jazz Education in creating an atmosphere of creativity and performance. For the third year JazzArt ® has been invited to dress the stages that host this international cast of jazz musicians and educators. Toronto, New York and now Long Beach, January 5-8, 2005.

Blending art on stage with live musicians has been the experiment of JazzArt ®. What others have said to us:

Howard Mandel, President, Jazz Journalists Association: The paintings are bold, dynamic. Strong visual impression from a distance. Very appropriate for the uses by the IAJE, and the Jazz Journalist Association has been very happy to donate them to Englewood Hospital where they hang at the Dizzy Gillespie Cancer Center...seen by thousands.

Ian Dogole, Band leader, "Hemispheres": Be sure to pay attention to the visually intoxicating and highly emotive backdrops supplied by E.J. Gold and the Grass Valley Graphics Group. Their presence adds depth and character throughout the presentation.

Wynton Marsalis: This was beautiful. It made the space a whole lot more alive! Jazz, jazz themes, different artists; a feeling of community where everybody is coming together in a meaningful way. This is something that should happen more.

It's been a wonderful success. It reminds us of the successful collaboration, a fusion of the arts by Hockney with Ravel and Satie; Sendek and Mozart's "The Magic Flute"; Kandinsky and Wagner; and Picasso and The Ballet Russe.
